Well Serhii, a lot has been going on for me recently. It all started with my computer not working and I was too lazy to get it fixed. I actually enjoyed not having the computer for a while because I could relax a bit (most of what i do is on the internet). But i'm back now and i'm gonna stay for a while.
Funny you should mention that Tymoshenko is more popular. I saw this in the news today: TYMOSHENKO MOST POPULAR POLITICAL FORCE IN UKRAINE - Eurasia Daily Monitor Didn't read it, but just in case any on you want to. It makes sence what you say about Tymoshchenko running for president. But I have to be honest, I do not trust her. Remember the first time she was PM, she violated her trust and thats when all the fighting began. Yulia knows how to cover up a lot. She might be the second best that we got right now, but definaly not best at what she does. I can see her leaving Yushchenko. I think she will bring in her own people because she looks like she will trick everyone in the end.] I unfortunatly could not vote yet, but I was a supported of Dennis Kucinich (don't know if you've heard of him). I think he was the best option but he did not have the $$$. My mom was really into Obama. She wanted to know what he is all about and started reading a book about him. However after what uncovered in the past few days, neither she nor many other Americans will vote for him. You know, if I had the chance to vote this time, a couple of weeks ago I would not have voted. McCain clearly wants war, and Clinton and Obama can't stop the war anyway. I think the two stand for the same things and both are not going to help America. HOWEVER, after what uncovered about Obama, I would vote for Hillary just to make sure Obama does not win. That really got me angered up. I think we should start a thread about the U.S. Pres Election here and see how it goes. Serhii, wish you all the best and hope to hear from you. ;-) |

Yulia Tymoshenko has very obvious strong and weak sides.
Her strongest side is PR and image making coupled with expressed populism… all these tearful words about “mere Ukrainians” - when she is being surrounded by richest people of Ukraine, in fact. So she earns her political commissions with such populism and she leaves no stone unturned even if it is blaming of yesterday friends. Her weakest side is exorbitant ambitions. That’s why she more destroys Orange movement then rescues it. She sees herself as queen in every situation and she pulls the blanket only on herself. That’s why there are so many contradictions inside orange movement – she dreams about her personal crown and point. That explains her strained relations with many pro-Yushchenko leaders. Also she considers herself as talented economist - but experience says she is lame one. Every her rule is featured with inflation, growth of prices, instability, gas scandals, jumps of currency rates, downfall of living rates, etc,etc That’s what pushes me away of her - discrepancy. The richest lady in Ukraine who talks just about needs of poorest people. The weakest economist who claims herself the most talented one – even if the facts prove opposite. The purely Eastern Ukrainian lady who sets the Western Ukraine against the East. The secondary player of OR who now tries to appropriate all the glory. Many of her supporters are the truly blind ones and it scares me… but if you have eyes she is like avant-garde picture - made of same contradictions and odds. |

My hands are tired because I just got finished writing a letter to Gov. Cornzine of NJ, USA to talk about new driving restrictions for teens that he is trying to place. So I will make this short.
I am not saying that I will fully back down from Yulia and I would hope that she still sticks with Yuschenko. As I mentioned the U.S. elections, the reason why Dennis Kucinich had no chance of becoming presedent is because he is not rich. T.V. stations did not feature him and instead covered up any votes that he won. I was in Ukraine just last summer. I did not hear as much from Victor as I did from Yulia. She is rich and he is not as rich as her (I personally do not know his financial situation). In order to make a successful president he / she needs a rich partner. You need money to be in politics and that is one of the most unfortunate thing in almost every country today. I am not saying that Yulia does not have good ideas, but what i am saying is that she would be more interested in having those ideas turn into more $$$ for her and her friends ahead of an average Ukrainian family. Comment Please. (Good to hear from you Max) |

Cheers, Stepan, you are right... that's spring now, the beautiful time and it seems no one wants to stick at boards all the days.
We got a lot of adventures here at winter but it’s not the case. ![]() Well, I can't say Yushchenko is poor one, far from it... I guess he is wealthy man. But he is public politician and political leader, he is not businessman of any kind. That's why he doesn't own factories, enterprises, etc... and law prohibits him do that directly. I think the situation is as usually with political leaders and officials. Of course he has a lot of sponsors who help him with orange movement and all of them became public people already. We know those folks and btw one of the biggest Yushchenko sponsors is Transcarpathian businessman Victor Baloga who rules the presidential administration now - in fact, he is right hand of Yushchenko. So he is OK with sponsors... he is even so well he can create new political party (there are persistent rumors about). It seems Our Ukraine didn't justify hopes of president and shifts his personal popularity down. May be, soon it will be crated new party, completely pro-Yushchenko one, it will be named "Gart" (The Tempering), it will likely be led by Baloga. As about Yulia, she has her own castle in orange movement now. Her BYT is separate clan, it’s coordinated and act for own interests. I think she will stick with Yushchenko of course in nearest future but he is already separate figure. Victor and Yulia are the biggest competitors inside the oranges, that’s what causes all contradictions. They rival for democratic crown and that’s obvious. However for me Tymoshenko and populism is the same. And populism is danger same as drugs. It’s like mirage in a desert - you see the lake of water, you run there, you jump in and you then tumble to dry sand. She is master of creating the optical illusions but in the upshot it’s the same – dry sand, only dry sand. |

Max,
I guess i worded it wrong. He is not poor, but he is also not as wealthy as the othe politicials. Clearly he cannot afford to run ads all day on tv as is with others. Who was the 3rd person in the Orange Rev? I liked him. |

I guess he can afford to appear on TV even more often then other politicians... don't forget, President has enormous advantage - all his conferences with journalist have to be shown. And all his interviwes will be shown anyway and all his TV appeals.
His possibilities are far more extended in reality... Don't forget though words of President have other value and weight. As elected chief of state he got to be very careful about what he says. Some words may be treated as agitiation for certain powers, some as blaming of certain powers - and this is not OK for president and can damage his reputation of non-biased ruler. Because he is in another category. At last summer on re-elections you saw the competition of politicians and parties... so we saw mostly Tymoshenko and Yanukovich, NUNS was represented by whole the team of politicians. President wasn't direct competitor in this race so he wasn't on TV so often as others. But it was so for mentioned reasons. 3rd person of OR? He must be Lutsenko, today's chied of police and head of NUNS. Too radical guy, for my taste. |

But if the president is making speaches, not many people listen (i know i don't). The whole point of ads is 30 sec, short, and to the point. That is the advantage that I consider.
This is the guy i was talking about (attached). I got the pic from a movie about the election. Za Piv Kroky Do Krovy. The reason why i liked him is because he stood up to the election board and made them feel stupid. Sorry for the small image size, this site has size restrictions. |
