Pysanki, mushrooms and pumpkins
Mention of the pysanki in Vegriville, Alberta prompted me to post these 3 pictures of the pysanki in Vegriville, mushrooms in Vilna and pumpkins in Smoky Lake (all Alberta, Canada).

What? You do not have a picture of the huge kubasa at Mundare? LOL
BTW Ponich, any relation to Ponich's from Grassland, AB? If my memory serves me there was a Mr Ponich who was the principle of the school at one point (many years ago). Sandra |

LOL - The first time I saw it (only last year) I laughed and laughed. I was doing some family research and when I aksed directions from a local they couldn't "name it" when giving me direction. They were making a circle with their hands telling me when you get to the end of the block (at the sausage) turn left. LOL

Hi Sandra, yes the Ponichs in Grassland are relatives, although I don't think I have ever actually met them. Tanasko (Tom) Ponich was my dad's uncle, and he had 16 kids, and the ones in Grassland were part of that family.
I've been thru Mundare a few times over the past 20 years or so, but it appears I have missed the sausage. The only sausage I know of from Mundare is the kind that expands the waistline. I can't tell you how many times we have run across people around the US (where I live now - Atlanta GA area) who know exactly what I mean when I bring up "Mundare sausage" - it is world famous and the best in the world. The pysanki was a bit of an engineering challenge as it is metal discs and the challenge was to get an egg shape.
