Opening of Donbass Arena

Some pictures from my recent visit to Donetsk. Opening of the new Stadium "Donbass Arena". Great show with Beyonce as live act. Unfortunately the prices for tickets were fairly steep for Ukrainian Standards. 150 - 4000 UAH meant that probably a lot of the regulars at Shakhtar Donetsk were not able to go........

Modern Europe became larger in cultural terms after embracing the Eastern part

Hello Ostberlin, greetings Silkrem!

Ostberlin, I am sure you will do everything to participate in the European Championships EURO 2012 which are going to be held in Poland & Ukraine. It will be a special opportunity for the Europeans to know Poland and Ukraine much better and to have a wonderful time there. In my country (Poland), there are already plenty of discussions concerning the preparations to the EURO 2012. Gigantic investments are projected in spite of the current economic crisis and some financial specialists hope that this event alone will make the GDP of Poland higher by 2%. A huge arena is already under construction in Warsaw and I can observe the progress weekly.
Silkrem, when I was a high school student I exchanged letters with one Russian boy from Leningrad (now Petersburg). I also visited Kyiv and I think I remembered Pecherska Lavra in the first place. Longtime travelling by Soviet trains was a special and quite pleasant experience (it included a stop at the border because the pitch of the Soviet railways is several cm higher than that of the rest of Europe). And I must say that Murmansk was the most exotic town I have ever toured while being in the Soviet Union.
I also once had a professional trip to East Berlin & Auerbach on the occasion of manufacuring eqipment purchase for my University. For that time, East Berlin seemed to be a prosperous and well-kept city.

Hi Guys, thanks for the comments! I can only recommend that you take a trip to the stadium to see it for yourself. It is well worth it.

Zbyszek, unfortunately, the way it looks at the moment Ukraine may not play host in the Euro 2012. As far as I know only Kiev remains as the only potential host city in Ukraine. Although Platini has said that Ukraine will not loose the Euro, it remains to be seen what the outcome will be. Germany has been brought into the discussion as a possible replacement for Ukraine. Hopefully they will manage to improve on the infrastructure issues.

Does any of you follow Ukrainian football?
