I am travleing to Zaporozhye in early August to visit an undergraduate friend of mine. I'm currently a graduate student wanting to see what the "former breadbasket of the Soviet Union" is all about.
I'd be greatful if somebody would be kind enough to post information such as how the police are, the prices for food and drinks, nightlife, and how the locals treat foreigners (white American), etc. Thanks! |

In my own experience, i've not had any trouble with the police in Zaporozhye. The police seems more of a problem in places where there are more tourists to shake out (Crimea).
Prices in Zaporozhye are much lower compared to Kiev, the Crimea or the West. Hotels are expensive though (dual pricing), so if you want to keep expenses down avoid them. The attitude towards foreigners is fairly laid back, like everywhere in Ukraine. Here is some basic info, things to see and nightlife: http://www.virtualtourist.com/vt/a9600/i/ Just follow the links at the bottum. Good luck. |
