How do Ukrainian men feel about this?

I've noticed this branch (I never check any of the others) has become rather boring. I posted a provocative, insightfull and interesting post a couple of days ago and only one person replied to it, where as other really unorgingal boring posts get lots of replies (even though they're similarly tedious), and then the forum just freezes for a couple of days. I guess it's the people which make up this forum; since it's so inactive, few people with need for intellectual stimulance bother to come here.

Anyway, in an attempt to get this forum going, I'm posting yet another interesting OP, and this time around I hope for some better feed-back:

How do Ukrainain men feel about foreginers being so open about taking their women? I never noticed any hostility in Ukraine, even though I was very carefull not to talk about the subject too much with my Ukrainian male friends, but simply because I'm aware how upset and jealous many other nationalities of men get at the thought of some rich foreginers coming and taking their women. I've not seen any Ukrainan man getting upset about it here, and in fact no women either. Is it because Ukrainans know something foreginers don't? Or is it just that dating dollars rather than people is so common in Ukraine that no one really cares about it?

Kathy, I think that on one level your response is correct. However, judging from my many conversations over vodka with male friends and family in Ukraine, there is an undertone to all this. On a subconscious level, Ukrainian women are angry at the men. In a manner of speaking, the women have done their part for Ukrainian society throughout history. They have nurtured, cooked and borne children. The men, for their part, have failed. They haven't maintained an independent state. The men are kind of resigned to this.

I think that ukrainian men are not selfish and they are sensitive to a woman's feelings more than other people. We honour women, their freedom of choice. As a matter of fact They are not private property to guard carefully. they are human beings. You, american men, have completely forgotten that. It is a pity and the reason why you are not satisfied with american women and have to be looking for abroad....

If so it would be amazing. I can only speak for the men form my own nation (Sweden) and many of us tend to get jealous when foreginers come here and get all the action, I've also experienced this myself when I've been abroad, but in Ukraine I didn't see much of it.

thre is this joke going on in Germany that that's what keeps Ukrainian economy alive is trading women.

But I'm not German, and I don't live there.

A girl that would go with a foreigner is not good for me - so where's the competition?

I think Khazan's attitude is prevalent among many Ukrainian men...and many Ukrainian women as well. My guess is that meeting foreigners for marriage is generally frowned upon in their society, just like it is here in the US. American women certainly do not regard their Eastern Euro counterparts to be competitors in any actual sense.
