I'm just wondering how much money can be spent during a month by a poor Ukrainian girl in America!

Depends on how much crap you buy

About slang - it's all pretty world-wide these days; most coming out of America, but people embrace it all pretty easily.

You'll hear alot of slang you won't understand, because people pick it up fast and it changes quickly. You'll get used it.

At the very least, they'll understand you. That is just until your in a social setting and when people are drinking because then people throw everythinbg together.

That's my experience anyway,

I have worked with people from every cxountry and it is OK at work, but as soon as you go-out and your with friends, the talk gets murbled and slang can take over the whole conversation completely! Even Americans can't understand us - only us.

Lucky for me, I speak slang in most languages (Kiwi can be hard). I can even understand Scouser if I let it swirl my head a few times and open up into actual sentences

That is what I have experienced...

Personally the more I drink the more I can understand. I have managed meaningfull conversations with equally drunk people with purely made up words/meanings and in the morning not understood a single thing they were saying.

I figure if you pretend you can understand somebody hard enough (and they you). Hence, your trusting your guessing - then you just might!!!

Faith goes a long way...

Cool-girl,

- Love to read your posts, as it makes me think of my first visits to Ukraine, and my efforts to learn a bit here and there. I agree with all the above, except for the apparent necessity of getting stoned out of your mind, before you can understand anything (Phillip - really !! what are you leading our young friend into??).

I also agree with Foggy. As a protestant myself, I have been to Ukrainian orthodox churches and services and - whilst there are some differences - I believe you can and will find God anywhere you want - IF YOU WANT ! May God bless you as you worship Him.

ANDREW

It could depend on what part of America you're visiting, too; some places are more expensive than others.
