Ok how about a new topic. Life in the city
in Ukraine. Any city will do, I'm personally
interested in Kiev. What you do on a daily
basis. Where you go for fun. Shopping.
Work. Anything that is done on a daily or
weekly basis. Just interested in the daily
life of a big City dweller in the Ukraine.
Let the posting begin !

Good topic. Corrie, as Grandma said, Russian is the language of choice in Kiev. There are so many things to see and do. I won't try to give you the tourist tour, but a more practical one. At one end of the Kreshchatik is the Bessarabski Rynok (market), which is by far the best bazaar in town in terms of quality of goods. Sounds like you have little kids. Across from the entrance to Saint Sophia Cathedral is a statue of a Ukrainian hero, Bogdan Khmelnitski: draw a line from the entrance through the statue, and farther beyond, straight ahead, is a wonderful playground with all sorts of little castles and imaginary figures and so on for kids to crawl around on. Do you get into hanging around and "shopping?" I understand you are doing missionary work, so you will be on a budget, but just in terms of enjoying looking at lots of "stuff," the Kreshchatik is wonderful its entire length. Nearby, the kids will love the funicular railway. Go to the river end of Kreshchatik, turn left, follow the street about a half mile. It's on your left. One car goes up while the other car goes down. Hmmm. Big city life. There's so much! I'll put on my thinking cap and see if I can come up with something useful tomorrow.
Best regards,
John

Zhenya is an unknown quantity at this point
I used to go on a pick-nick and get drunk with my friends. Of course you can get drunk at home, but it's not the same as together with nature.

WBR, Zhenya

John oh that sounds like fun for the kids !
Well we have a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old, boys
both. And that sounds like good fun for them. As far as the surprise, as for drinking, we have done a lot of work on the
streets, especially at night. And are used
to dealing with people who have been drinking. Been doing that for 13 yrs. As long as people aren't violent, it doesn't worry me at all. ;0)
What kind of houses do people live in,, is it mostly high rise apartment buildings?
Or are there houses ? Is it really crouded
like New York city ? Maybe someone knows of some sites on the internet to check out some
pictures of Cities in Ukraine?
What kind of restaurants do you go to ? If
any. Or maybe what's your fav. meal and wouldn't hurt to send the recipe if you want
to. I'm open for any topic as long as it's
about city life !

Thanks for the responses!
