The times of 1990-s when desperate women of USSR tried to escape in order to survive passed long ago. It was a matter of "getting out of Dodge..." (American slang). Today it more a matter of opportunity due to economics.The women from the former USSR are seeking better opportunities but having high demands and they do not need losers, they are looking for the men that would be able to provide them with American standards of life and are dreaming to enjoy American women's rights. I've found that the women are among the strongest in the world (anyone who can survive nicely on the equivalent of $15 American a month is a superwoman.

American men who are looking for someone to roll over and play dead are in for a VERY rude awakening.

Higher material status is available through a foreign marriage. However, enjoying women`s rights can be contradictory to the American husband`s expectations. Those Americans who look for wives in Slavic countries expect their wives to be traditional as much as they can be. The Slavic wife must be pretty and not too fat, she must like and know how to cook and do the chores, like children, be tolerant, patient and forgiving for her husband, not waste too much money on clothes and things, stay at home and wait for her husband with a meal etc etc....

Non-Ukranians MUST understand the intricacies and difficulties involved before even considering entering into such a relationship. The required paperwork is enormous. There are not just cultural differences, but also, now that borders are down via the Internet, there are many scams being run on both sides.

Also, if the subject of money ever comes up to get a ticket...and the relationship is less than a year old...there is something major wrong with this picture. Visas to Eastern Europe or the USA take a matter of months, not days.

I agree with everything you say, however I first "spoke" with my beautiful Ukrainian/Russian wife in September 5 years ago via an internet dating site and then by telephone, we first met in December 5 years ago and were married in February 5 years ago(Feb 15th if anyone wants to send any cards:-)))..) so there are success stories as well as disaster stories I also think that visas are easier here in the UK than the US or Canada which helps, I do however advise anyone to be aware of scams and fraudsters not just in the ex Soviet countries but everywhere where dating is concerned as there is BIG money to be made from people looking for their perfect partner, both male and female.

Finding a bride in Ukraine is rather simple and easy thing to do for a western man. It's not as hard or as easy as one might think but it's really easier than finding a western woman.
Sometimes we watch the western men on tours and trips and see how they meet and date the girls from Ukraine and notice that the ladies are glad to have a date with a meal and a nice environment. Many girls have one or two sets of clothes and live in chicken shack type housing and hand wash their clothes. When they get a chance to show themselves and date a western man it's a good fortune to eat and drink with these men.
If you live in America or Canada and take into account that eating at a restaurant once a week or twice a week as normal then you should visit Ukraine where the girls are lucky to meet that expectation by a long shot. Sure they date the western man for economic reasons but not for that reason alone. If Canadian women had to suffer like many Ukrainian girls do then I would imagine the world would be just after an atomic war.hahahaha
It's a good idea to find a Ukrainian woman and even better if you find a good one but don't believe everything you hear from people who have never been to Ukraine or even dated our Ukrainian girls because they only mostly know what they read and not what they saw or lived.

I also think that visas are easier here in the UK than the US or Canada which helps - have no idea where you got that from, but personally myself finding the "visa thing" quite a mission.. Maybe 5 years ago it wasnt such a deal, but nowadays, believe me, it is an utter enldless kafkaesque
