I suppose I should first introduce myself, lol. I'm Henry Johnson, 18 and currently living in the United States.
I must say, with all honesty, that I am extremely impressed with both the Ukrainian nation and her people. I hadn't really taken much notice of its existence until the most recient "Orange Revolution" and the people's amazing strides towards true democracy and freedom. The qualities that the Ukrainian people were showing in the peaceful demostrations against their fradulent government fully embodied principles I hold most dear--the love of country and the fellow citizen. I've become very disheartened with America reciently, and have wanted nothing more than to make a difference in this country as my life goal, however with Ukraine now on the scene of my mind, I've had thoughts of possibly moving there after college (or maybe even during) to see if it would be possible to make a life and help there. A nation and her peoples can only be helped in as much as they wish to be helped. America doesn't seem to want it, and Ukraine does... Anyway, I don't mean to sound like a political add, just wanted to kindof give you a background from where I'm headed and what my interests are. Besides the obvious (politics and country) I love music, friends, good times, reading, etc. I could go on, but, I'll leave any real specifics until you do or do not respond and ask them yourself. That said, I'm obviously looking for a pen pal, or two, or six (lol) from the Ukraine. You can be male or female, I could really care less, just note I won't flurt with you or become romantically interested in you if you're male... (duh)... Anyway, Thank you for your time, and I look forward to getting to know you and your nation better. If you're interested, don't hesitate to e-mail me at: hwjsax@charter.net Yours Truely, Henry |

I completely agree with your opinion on Ukraine, although we both probably have little understanding of what they have gone through as a nation, given the comfortable status of United States citizens. Good luck on your search, because it seems to have been awhile since you have received a reply.

Hi Camster!
You seem to be disappointed with Ukraine. It’s sad for us to realize that you might have felt uncomfortable in our country. We’ve had a lot of foreign visitors these years: 1) Tourists. They come to see what the country of the former Soviet Union and its people look like. Most of them find Ukrainian people kind but they are shocked by the low standard of living. 2) Just men. They look for a wife and sometimes do find. In Ukraine faithfulness in family life has always been respected. ( Meetings organized by marriage agencies are often mocked at by Ukrainians as there is no mutual respect from the very beginning. Foreigners who (using their financial superiority) encourage and spread prostitution are despised by the society because this phenomena is considered to have no Ukrainian roots). 3) Businessmen. They investigate the possibility to start their own business, and face fast growth of Ukrainian economy, highly educated people and a lot of red tape. 4) Altruists. They wish to help but soon realize that Ukrainians have learnt how to survive in the face of adversity and it is sometimes a question, “Who is to be helped?” 5) Missioners. They bring their sincere understanding of true faith. (Sometimes some of them try to make of it as much money as possible). Most Ukrainians keep to traditions of their parents and grandparents. We are very glad when people from other countries visit Ukraine and enrich us with the heritage of their cultures. We understand that it is not easy to be a foreigner in Ukraine. We are thankful to you for the warm greeting in the Guest Book. We would be interested to know your impressions of Ukraine and we would appreciate any honest message. You could also use our e-mail address: Sunflower313@ukr.net Lots of love, Froggy. |
