Benda,
You are misunderstanding the comments about the american education system. Its not bad in the sense that it does not teach. It is bad in the sense that it teaches (in my opinion) americans for the labor market, and the work environment; it does not teach them their place in society and to be members of the world community. Which is one of the reasons that few americans know much about world geography, and almost nothing about world history. You for example can join a conversation about american leaders, and have a justifiable opinion; very few americans would know where your country is, let alone who its present or past leaders were. This is not only American illness...
Lots of Spanish people think Ukraine is situated near Australia... Very important words - about place in world community. But tell me please what school you can hear this idea in? Thank you for the compliment... But as you can see my opinion here is poorly justified... That is because I am not really interested in American history... |

Benda,
Greece/Turkey/Cyprus is just another example of the western allies imposing sovereignty on a happy and integrated society without understanding the elements of that society. A subject for another day, but out of place here in this thread. No, I had nothing to do with the UN presence there. |

Benda,
No it is not a uniquely american illness. But most countries of the world understand and teach its citizens that they belong in a world community that they should learn a little about. I dont mean studying american history or any other specialized subject, just a basic understanding of other countries, cultures, and people. In america it seems the motto is "perochialism rules" Len |
