Benda,
You are to some extent both right and wrong. The americans are really an amazing people. Their ability and potential is unsurpassed in the modern era. I say that for many reasons that I dont expect many foreigners to understand without having the experience of seeing them up close and personal. Unfortunately their education system has done them an ill service. Most of them know and understand very little about the world and its peoples. This is mostly due to their domestically orientated education system with almost no emphasis on their place in the world community. Most believe the world hates them, and the reason they are told this is that they are so rich and wonderful that everyone wants to be american. Of course we all know that is not true but you would have a very hard time convincing an american that. I believe they are more than capable of electing a world leader, who can stablize and influence security in the world. They dont do that, only because they have no idea that is what we need of them. As a reasult, even when by chance they get a world leader, they dont recognize him. For example : Under the leadership of Clinton, america was more popular in the world than at any time in recent history. They were also more economically successful in international trade then they had previously been. But, he had the morals of a sewer rat, so he is very unpopular. Under the current administration america and americans are at their lowest ebb in popularity in the world and their economy is not even close to where it should be. Ask most americans and they dont care, because their leader is waving the flag, and is very "American". The opinion of the world is of no concern to them. Thats OK I guess, its their president, and their country, so they have that right. It is not until their education system changes and they learn and aquire a mature attitude to their importance to us all, that we have any hope of change. Len PS. Please understand that I am neither pro Bush nor pro Clinton [Edited by lenire on 4th December 2005 at 00:56] |

"How about step-by-step driving the world out of their influence?"
Only someone with little or no experience of americans would consider saying that. Not a chance, believe me, if america wants it, they will get it. Period. Like I said, an amazing people. To undestand that, you have to see them at work and at play, then you may understand. Len |
