Greetings,
This is a true story, that you might find hard to believe. Last year while my wife and I were visiting my 87 year old mother in Hungary, something happened that I find as food for thought. One day my brother-inlaw and I were sent on an errand to get some groceries. We went to a nice Supermarket and in a short time we had everything we needed including bread. As we walk towards the car, I noticed a two block long line of people accross the street. They were standing patiently in line talking to each other. I asked my brother-inlaw what they were doing. He said: they are waiting for fresh, HOT bread. The store we just came from had plenty of fresh bread, but not HOT. I almost could not believe my eyes. Is this disfunctional, standing in line talking to each other, while waiting for HOT bread? Is this proper behaivor? What about values? Standing in line waiting for Hot bread while missing all the Television programs. Not one of them had a BOOMBOX. Highly unusual. Would you do it? |

No, I would not stand in line for such bread. If I wanted "such" bread, I would make it like I was taught by my mother when she was old and frail in her days. That way, I would have "a loave" fresh from the oven, made with my own hands, with my own energy, and with a smile on my face from the memory of my mother telling me to "knead it harder, let it rise longer" This always makes the bread taste better

Greetings Singleinwiusa,
Do you make a sour dough bread with hard crust? That is what these people were waiting on. Keep in mind that they had plenty of fresh bread in the Supermarket. They wanted HOT bread. I just found it refreshing that in 1999, people would be standing in line talking to each other while waiting for HOT bread. Your method is fine too. Enjoy and good luck. |
