I received an email informing me of this site. The one thing that I do not see is any reference to 'geneology'. Since a large number of immigrants to the U.S. come from Eastern Europe, it seems like it should be a natural extention and should draw additional interest.

I am interested in any information egarding 'Ivan Pankow' and his wife 'Alvina Jakowina'. Ivan was born in Dobrowlany, alicia approximately July 4th.,1888(died 1931). [I believe this is Dobrovolje in the Ukraine] Kalusz was a nearby city located in Eastern Galicia, part of the Austrian Hungarian empire(which ceased to exist after the Great War, WW1). His nationality was Ruthenian. He was possibly Greek Orthodox at the time before his departure to America. In 1912 he worked in a Chemical Fertilizer Factory in Rendsburg, Germany.

He and his wife, Alvina sailed from Brennan, Germany, aboard the SS George Washington(opperated by North German Lines) and arrived NYC Ellis Island,April 14th.,1913. Records indicate that he was married in February, 1911 in Kalush Germany to Alvina Jakowina(born 14 Mar 1893, ) (her name may not be correct). I have noticed that the spelling of places and names varies in different documents.

I have put together a small amount of information at the following url. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb....hnponkowfamily

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to conduct a search for information in the Ukrane. I would certainly appreciate any direct info re: 'Ivan Pankow' and/or his wife 'Alvina Jakowina', during their life in Europe, 1888 thru 1913.
Sincerely,
R.H.Smith

Your question is easily answered. I just posted this message and no time has past in which to make a judgement. My feeling is that nothing ventured, nothing gained. Thankfully, this message board exists to use.
Sincerely,
RHS
