Greetings,
I know that some of you have wondered what a Hungarian was doing on this board. A few of you know this already, I was trying to locate the burial place of my wife's uncle. He was a member of the German Army and he was killed in action in 1944, near Ternopil. Some of you, I have approached privately for help and advise. I have never before experienced anything like the kind warm hearted help I received here. The good news is that on tuesday we found where he is buried. In August , our family will travel to Ukraine to pay our final respect and put a closure to this sad episode. Again, I am humbled by the kindnes of the Ukrainian people. I hope that one day I will have a chance to personally thank each and every one of you. Good Luck. |

Hi, B.Ungaro. How was your trip to Ukraine? I'm very happy for you, your wife and her family. I just wish my family and many other ones could be as lucky. Both of my grandfathers were killed in WW2, they were in Soviet Army though. I never knew them. My family lost all the pictures of them during the war. We have only one picture of my mom's dad. That's all. My grandmothers and my parents were never been able to locate where my grandfathers were killed and buried. It makes me very upset. My dad graduated highschool when WW2 started. He had to joing the Army, too. Later on, he was captured by Nazis. Few years later he and others were liberated by Americans. He was looking forward going back home. But guess what he found: Soviets never forgave him for being captured(he had to shoot himself or something similar to that, but never work for Nazis). While being captured he was very close to be killed(he was 3rd,when Nazis shoot every 4th in the row). He lost his health and youth while being there. After the liberation he could choose the place where to live, but Ukraine always has been his home. To make this story short, I know there many families with stories like mine. And it's very upseting not being able to make things right for those people.
I hope any of this makes sense. Best wishes to you and your family. ------------------ Victoria |
