Hi folks,
I live in a mixed Ukrainian and Polish town (I am first wave Ukrainian). A lot of the new wave Polish immigrants have the name "Agnieszka" (English equiv: Agnes). I was wondering if any of you were familiar with the Ukrainian equivalent. Also, why do you suppose it is much more popular with the Poles than with us? |

Hello Irena,
No, no, there is also a Ukrainian form of Agnes. I have heard it before but I did forget what it was. I know there are the Russian ones: Agnia, Agnessa; and the Polish one: Agnieszka, but there is also a different Ukrainian one, especially Northern and Western Ukrainian - but I just do not remember what it is called. Perhaps it is very old and not used too much anymore. Like Tekla, Teresa, and Paraskeva. If you think of anything... Thank you, K. Zorylo |
