It is not much lack of respect,is more like poeple get use to to certny name and is more habit then anything alse. In debates thinks happend, but to get offended of that, that lack of respect. If this was the case I shuld be offended hundreds times when everobody cal my home town own ways. I was kind of suprise to see that ,never happened to me that yet.To small issue to argue.Anyway I am gone ,time to concentrate on money making ideas.Hell with politics and history.Waist of time.It was nice to meet some intersting fellows on this forum. But keep door open for other nationalities and etnic group ,this makes forum more spicy. Otherwise is boring. [QUOTE]Originally posted by Lina |

You are right, TuchajBay. But I jump, when somebody say something as "Oh, Lvov, this is Polish town, not?", or "Ukrainians? They are the same that us, Russians". Too much times. About compromises - in Lviv there are Polish schools, eg. And this is absolutly normal. We have Polish inhabitants due to the history, so they have all rights to preserve their culture and their language. And pierogys too, of course.

When I lived in Odessa, I always enjoed Pelmeni, it's a small version of Perogies and they usually are stuffed with pork or beef. Also i loved Beliashi, it's a flat meat pie that is usually sold by street vendors, they are sooo good! I would order one and they make it from scratch right on the spot, such aroma and beauty is hard to explain!
Also we had nalistniki, stuffed sweet peppers, perogies, cabbage rolls, borsh, Ooha- (Black Sea fish soup), prianiki, "pirozhki z miasom" or pirozhki z povidlom"-those two are a sweet baked dish... There are so many things to mention! Thank God I'm going to Odessa this coming May and I'll get to eat ALL of that great food! Even though Odessa is in Ukraine, it's been under the Turks, Greeks, Mongols, Tatars, French, Germans, and Russians..that most of the city speaks Russian, but Odessa's language is mixed, so everyone speaks a mixture of Russian, Ukrainian, and French! We have wonderful Ukrainian colleges and schools. Odessa is unique and proud to be part of Ukraine.Irinka |

Hi Irinka
sometime ago, i think i saw your yahoo club. lol Personally i don't really know, because i live in USA now, but someone told me that Odessa doesn't want to be part of Ukraine. IM going to Ukraine this summer, mostly i'll be visiting Kiev. can't wait, too excited. Steve, take it easy too much talk about perogie, lol and as for food, you can never beat good old russian/ukrainian food |

Who told you that? I know that Crimea was thinking of being independant and they were hoping that Odessa would want the same thing because Odessa is the largest Sea Port of Ukraine. But Odessa is Ukrainian and will stay that way forever.
