My grandparents are from the Ukraine. They taught us to enjoy many Ukrainian foods, like beet soup (borsch), bread and butter (hleep and masla), and sourkraut (kapoosta).

Now that they are no longer around, I wish I had learned to cook these items myself, as no one in our family keeps up with tradition anymore.

I do not know why you guys get upset so easly about name of cities or places. For you is Lviv, for Pole is Lwow ,for German is Lemberg .Vilnius is for Lithuanians and for Poles
is Wilno, and Lithuanian do not care how the Poles call that.
Szczecin is for Poles ,and for Germans is Stettin ,and again who cares nobady get offended there if German call his way.It has to be offence right a way.
You build the city ,but don't you think Poles did lot of building there too.Fortunatly they did and made not bad work after all.So they did in Vilnius and we are happy for that now.You see nothing but bad thinks only ,ocupations
language prosecutions. You dont even know how much Poles acceepted from your culture and belive me there is lot.
I guess you will be only happy if they accept everything,
are you willing to accept polish culture totaly .Very unlikly. So there has to be compromise.Accept what is good, reject what is bad.Why the western Ukrainians are so anty polish this days ,hopefully not all ,just some .
Would be a good time to start onother Polish Ukrainian war ,so the Russians can win again.I guss time to burry
the swords for long time if we need to keep independence.
Your enemy is back east not by the river San.
You do not have to show this anty polish sentiments all the time.Countries do not reconsile if people do not reconsile
first.Your country need a help ,lot of help and could not be just easer to get it from nighboor or dreaming to get it from some overseas countries.

Thumbs up WISER THINGS HAVE NOT BEEN SAID

I could not have said it any better. Time, for some individuals, to start absorbing a degree of comprehension of the big picture. Being buried in their narrow perspective, they paralyze their effectiveness to interact. The sooner, they realize that, the better. These forums, evidently, failed to teach them anything. Their intransigense makes them obsolescent in any discussion, on any topic and on any forum.

Talking

Great! That's coming from a person who gets a little sensitive about some ignorant individuals saying THE Ukraine. I smell progress.

To TuchajBay:
You are right, we did a little to overreact on spelling! But, I guess you will agree that it would be nicer people called cities the way natives call it.(kinda show more respect for the culture) I remember somebody mentioning Warsaw to me, and I had no idea where it was located in Poland! At that time I did not know that Brits have screwed up a prononsiation on their side. Now, I expect if I say Vilnus that it may sound somehow different in German...Can we change it? Probably not, we just have to live with it. Though, I see nothing wrong in telling forigners how does the name really shoud sound. Of course not in "you bastard are so wrong" kind of manner...

Now, should we go back to the topic..May be?
I would really like to know more about Polish foods, that Ukrainians do not make. May be anyone can provide me with names or recepies???

Thumbs down

What language is this board written in?

That'll be English and as such the name of the city is Lviv. It's absolutely un-important what Polls, Germans or Mongolians call the city, it's name has been internationally recognised by all governments as Lviv in Ukrainian and Lviv in English. END OFF. Now if any one wants to get in to a boring debate on the internationally accepted names of areas then start a new topic, but I'd check out CRESS and SESS before making an arse of yourself.

BTW If it ain't important than why in God's name don't you just call it Lviv.
