Sorry to bring up such an old post but in the UK you're allowed dual citizenship. And when you go to Ukraine, why not use Ukrainian travelling passport for this journey? Even though I have UK citizenship, I never appliedfor UK passport nd didn't have a problem travelling to Ukraine. And whilein Ukraine, you just use your local Ukrainian passport.

If your "just curious" I'm not going to explain in detail this issue to you. I have dual-Citizenship. (USA/UK) I do not/can not
lose US citizenship as it is a Consitutional Right. I don't care much about my UK Citizenship as it is only for convenience, they can do as they see fit. When I obtain PR in Ukraine I will not lose my status as an American citizen. I will have the equivalent of a "green card" in Ukraine, allowing me to live with my wife for as long as I don't screw up here. If I wanted a Ukraine Passport that might a different matter, but I don't need it. A Ukraine Citizen loses Citizenship if they Naturalize to another country as Ukraine doesn't recognize this. I am fuzzy on this because I am getting translated info from my wife, so the terminology and concept are new to us. We are not going to move back to US so not a real issue anyway for us. |

That's correct Z! Ukraine does not reconize dual citizenship.
If a Ukrainian takes citizenship from another country they are supposed to turn in their passports. Most do not though. My wife retains hers even though she's also a USA citizen now. The UA passports are handy to use within Ukraine. USA Passport is better for travel due to not needing visa's for many countries. Within a few years we'll move to Ukraine for retirement and take up a permanent residence visa and live there in Cherkassy. She will get hers thru having a Ukrainian child and I'll take mine because I've been married to her for 7 years now. Unless they change the rules again~

Thanks
Thanks AK,
We were not sure what would happen. My wife thinks she will lose her UA passport. My argument was that "How would either USA or Ukraine know that you have 2 passports or citizenship?" She has 2 passports of some kind. One is for Ukraine use itself, and one is some kind of International travel passport. My next trip is too US embassy here in Kiev to get some info on "Official" status, etc. |
