Since I started this thread it seems that many Russians are not happy with their beloved leader after all. Some are clearly disenchanted with the announcement that Putin is putting himself forward for another prolonged period of Presidency and there are accusations of vote rigging in the recent parliamentary election. "Unofficial" protestors have been arrested in great numbers whilst participating in demonstrations against Putin. To counter this there were demonstrations in favour of Putin, although there are no reports of these guys being arrested (perhaps they were "official"?). This demonstration / counter demonstration is becoming reminiscent of Egypt, Libya and Syria. Is it possible that Russia could follow along similar footsteps?

Lack of interest in this thread speaks for itself. For more responses try posting on Russia.com I think I know what they will be.

Not likely, as those other "revolutions" were CIA sponsored and directed. Russia is a freelance agency and can do all kinds of things that those north africaners couldn't.

The "Puppet" President prepares to step down.

President Medvedev, the puppet president installed by Vladimir Putin, was the device by which Putin could maintain his firm grip over the Kremlin and Russia, as he was unable to put himself forward for presidential office for a third term under the Russian constitution. However, due to his "absence" from the presidency he is now able to take up the title once again.

However, before he takes up the presidency again in May he has got Medvedev to change the law concerning the registration of new political parties in the future. This cunning move is designed to ensure a proliferation of political parties that will enable Putin's hold on power as he will stand out as being more credible than the created confusion of this "democratic" process.

But with thanks to the internet, Russians are wisening up to Putin's stranglehold of their country and with rumours circulating about his luxury mansion being constructed on the Black Sea coast, and of secret bank accounts in Switzerland and elsewhere, coupled to the unfortunate occurrences of those that oppose him, I predict that his long term political survival may be more difficult than he would like.
