hello

this might be a bit different then the usual posts but I have a fiancee in ukraine. I am a dutch girl living in germnay and we are trying to get him here. seems not to work out too well till now but now we heard from travel agency's in KIEV that offer tours and are arranging visas. does anyone have any experience in this??and what are the general costs? it would have to be a travel agent in kiev offering a trip to either holland or germany. would love to hear from people that can help since we find ourself a little stuck....thanks in advance!!

Hi Kim,

If your man lives in Kiev or travels there often, it's not so difficult to get a tourist visa for Holland. In that case, an organised tour is not the best option. It's a different story if he lives far from Kiev. In any case I would not recommend getting a tourist visa for Germany, as they're notoriously difficult.

I believe i'm not allowed to post links on this forum, so google for "netherlands-embassy.com.ua", and click on Visa in the menu on top of the page and you'll find the procedure. Your guy will need the following documents from you:

(1) a copy of your labour contract (your contract should either be fixed or valid for longer than 1 year)
(2) salary slips for the last 3 or 4 months (your wage should be about 20%(?) higher than the Dutch minimum wage)
(3) a financial guarantee letter from your municipality (available as a standard form in most municipalities, you should fill it in, the municipality should legalise your signature)

In addition, your man might be asked (4) to show tickets for the trip (make sure you get refundable tickets) and (5) prove of health insurance for the duration of his stay.

In case the procedure above doesn't work out because you're based in Germany, you could ask a family member living in Holland to make the invitation. All of this is based on the assumption you can fully trust your man.

Good luck

hi albatross

due to circumstances were we denied touristvisa for the netherlands a month ago, we had all the papers required but they wouldnt grant him the visa cuz they said he was too young and the risk that he would stay was too big :S thats why we wanna try now through other channels.

I see. Though luck. To answer your initial question, there are lots of travel agencies in Kiev and most of them offer trips to Western European countries, including Holland. If you want, i can ask my wife and i'll p.m. you the contact details of an agency that we dealt with. But actually, your man should not have any problem to find an agency.

Do you want to get your bf per se to Holland? If not, you could have him book a holliday to Crete (Kreta) for instance as Greece is flexible with tourist visa's. The travel agency will help him with the visa. You will join him from Holland or Germany. You will have the extra cost of your flight, but you will avoid making hotel bookings in Holland/Germany that you don't really need. We planned our hollidays this way several times and had no problem.
