Heating an apartment
Hey guys, and gals,
Yes, it's me again! Big surprise, right? Anyway, Larisa, my fiancé is having her daughter take over her apartment in Slavyansk, eastern Ukraine. She wants to set up the place with new a heating system. Any suggestions??? Heat pump, forced air, electric space heaters??? Who, what, where, why? Help! She lives in an apartment building. I have no clue! I have build houses here in the US, but from what I have experienced in Ukraine, my knowledge of building or renovation or remodeling, or whatever sucks! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Come one, come all. Thank you in advance!:-) Sincerely, The American psycho wackjob,:-)))))))) Dane Later

Central heating electric boilers are installed everywhere in Lviv in refurbished/renovated/newly-bought apartments - gas furnaces - many of them with valuable tiles - are dismissed and can be found 'exhibited' in dumps.
Prior to installation you should calculate what is cheaper gas or electricity |

Slavyansk is not so little town, so if Larisa owns an apartment on a block, there is probably no choice other than central heating. If her apartment is a part of a little bulding, then it is worthwhile to carry out careful cost analysis before making final decision as to what heat installations should replace the old ones. I am sure any modern type of heating could be probably be used but decision depends on many factors (including probable future rise of gas price and huge expenses connected with the heat pump).
I think it is always better to think about limiting heat escape through the walls and windows first. A lot of foamed polistyrene around is advisable! |
