I do NOT agree that we should instill fear and hatred into the hearts of the innocents. This is the same tactic used by the Palestinians to teach their children to hate the Infidels.

Lilly, I discuss the similar things within the circle of my former schoolmates in Poland. The discussion is often passionate but always within the basic frame of civilized talk. I am sure we can discuss here the similar way.
I think your approach is sincere but does not include historic context and it is preoccupied with recent ideas disregarding what was valuable in the past.
In my opinion, you confuse the notion of sin with the implied hatred. The whole concept of Christianity is based on love and forgiveness. Hence, the sin should not provoke hatred because we are all deep in sinful behaviour. There is nothing wrong in belief that homosexuality is a sin as it is a strictly religious term and it should be no problem for a true atheist. Would you demand to modify the biblical terms? We should be merciful for all kinds of sins like Jesus was and we should be able to forgive. I would like to quote what Paul said to the Corinthians “Love keeps no score of wrongs, nor does gloat over other men’s sins”. This is the teaching we need. So, we should not be taught by the Candanian governance what IS sin and what IS NOT. Current Canadian governance has no license to teach us forever, the more so that next Canadian governance may be inclined to teach us different things. We need a stable reference point!
"The birth of prejudice lies in teaching" - I fully agree with this. I only do not notice exclusively old prejudice but also a new one because when you forbid someone to believe in what is formally determined as impermissible, you add new prejudice to old one.
