Sensitive Subject

Whilst I know that homosexuality in Ukraine is not a criminal act, I have read on many internet sites that it is not widely accepted and you should choose who you tell very carefully. I have had a friend from Luhansk that I have spoken to online for many years who knows that I am a lesbian and this does not seem to bother her. Although she is a young woman so amoungst a younger generation it may be more acceptable.

I am a young female who is on the brink of meeting long lost family in Ukraine, I have been in a 4 year relationship with my partner and we are engaged. We are both very feminine and people always assume we are straight until we tell them otherwise.

The family I am going to meet are from a rural village in Western Ukraine and there are some older members of the family I am hoping to meet and keep in regular contact with.

I am not sure how to approach the subject... My family in Ukraine are bound to ask me if I have a boyfriend, Married, Children. I want to be accepted by my family but I also do not want to live a lie. My family in England are absolutely fine and we are just regarded as another couple.

Would appreciate any advice.

It is not an advice, rather imagination of myself on your place. If I were you I would not tell that I am a lesbian untill I would feel their reaction to this. After you can assume how they will accept this you could decide on what to do next. You are right that in rural areas and old people are not very loyal to such things. And also because the church has strong influence on people there.
