Help - Cheremshina translation

I would be pleased to hear from anybody who has an English translation of the old folk song Cheremshina - I love the tune and would love to have a full translation of the lyrics.

Thanks

Peter

PSM, are you still in the forum?

I'm not sure about an old folksong "Cheremshyna". I know there's this "Cheremshyna":
http://www.midi.ru/song/111057/midig...getsong=111057 (the song starts after the 30 second intro)

Cheremshyna

Ivan,

Thanks for your reply. Yes the cheremshyna you suggested is the same tune as the one I listen to on a different site and with lyrics. The one I listen to is
http://www.russia-in-us.com/Music/Co...gi?cheremshina.

If you can give any help in the translation of the lyrics I would be very pleased.

Peter

Wink Cheremshyna rules!

Nice song - I remember being schoolboy we used to sing self-made "rebellious version" :

Znov Bandery golos chuty v lisi -
Karabiny zahovaly v strisi,
Znov zagovoryly kulemety,
U kysheniah pohovaly pistolety...
...etc

Unbreakable, benda, and others.

Would you guys like to help out, come out with your own translations? Who knows, it might be picked up, and you'll become famous. Or just do it in the spirit of friendly competition.

PSM, I'll get back to you with my translation.

Once again the voice of the cuckoo bird can be heard in the forest,
Swallows made a nest in the roof.
The shepherd guides his flock through the field
And a nightingale is chirping a song somewhere beyond the woods.

Chorus:
Everywhere splendidly blossoms cheremshyna*,
Like a bride guelder rose before her marriage.
In the quiet corner of the garden
Girl is waiting for the shepherd.

To the garden she walked by the poplars,
And gazed at the tall mountains,
Where clear dew drops off the leaves of birches,
As she placed a flower of the guilder rose in her hair.

(Chorus)

The sun is already setting,
From the fields the shepherd is singing to her:
I will be with you, as soon as I bring
The flock back from the pond.

(Chorus)

Now it’s evening, sheep are by the pool
Drinking cold water from the Cheremosh river.
And in the garden the shepherd is greeted
By the girl that loves him.

(Chorus)

cheremshyna- bird cherry, a type of tree.
