What's popular over there? Hopefully it's better than popular music in the US...

US popular music is about 90% rap, about (degrading) women, 40oz'ers, lots of gold jewelry, imported italian sports cars, and living in the ghetto. Unfortunately, all of these things are popular over here. Even upper-middle class men and women dress and behave as if they were from the slums. People filing lawsuits because their fruit juice that is labelled 100% isn't as so, or people crying discrimination whether it be racism/ageism/sexism when things don't go their way. None of this I see as a positive thing. Definitely the dumbing down of society over here. Not all rap's fault, but the media in general. Rap isn't helping

The other 10% is country music, but it's more like the bubble-gum soft rock of the 1980's.

Just was curious Hopefully it's something that has redeemable musical value..

I don't like country grunge or rap-metal much either...but I don't know why you criticize rap for the violent nature of it's lyrics but remain comfortable listening to heavy metal rock groups from the 80's. Most of the music from that period was very violent and of poor taste too, unless if you listened to groups like Petra or Stryper.

In Ukraine, European pop music is most popular than other types of music. Simply Red, In-Grid, Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias, Kylie Minogue, Shakira, TATU are rather popular.

I have never heard country music broadcast anywhere in Ukraine, but that is probably a good thing.

Well, heavy metal lyrics (generally) are too far fetched and fictional to take seriously. I mean, who can personally relate to something like Slayer or Venom. Fantasy. There is a percentage of serious and violent music, though, I will admit that.

What you listed as popular music in UA is about the same it is here, minus the R&B/Rap stuff. 'Yuk' to just about all of them, though I can tolerate Kylie.

What I listed as being popular in UA did not include any Russian/Ukrainian groups, I did not think this would interest you.

I wonder if anyone in UA listens to or ever heard of some kind of Polish music - I don't mean Chopin but some kind of pop/rock music '60 - '90 (Republika, Czeslaw Niemen etc)...

Guess what country I'm from

Groups that are popular back in Urkaine (ukrainian music groups)
\Okean Elzy
Ruslana
Maria Burmaka
mandry
Skrabin
Bilyk
Hajdamaky
Dzvony
VV
Druha rika
any other questions?

As for the statment made about ukes hating russians... as a genereal rule you are right. just like as a genereal rule Jews hate germans.... More ukrainians were killed during ww2 than jews... 10 000 000 ukrainians were starved to deathe in 1932-33. But geeze... anyone who claims they are remotely ukrainian should know this! 6000 Russian soldires masacared 500 ukrainian school children at Kruty! Ukrainians are a gentle people but they have to learn to defend themselves from Russia and that idea of domination by them! We are a strong people who have to become confident that we are worth something!
