I forgot to add that my Ukrainian language skills are very poor, but the beauty and intensity of the music shines through anyway. My family (in the Ukraine) had a choral background, as my paternal grandfather was a choirmaster, and his youngest son, my uncle Kostya after him. I have always loved choral music, and as a schoolboy was in church choirs, and in the chorus to Bach's Passion in Lichfield cathedral (UK).
However after my voice broke, I have a similar voice to my dad. As an example of what I mean, he says that grandfather often conducted the family in song, and he remembers once being led away from the group by his ear for singing not so tunefully. ![]() Here is a picture of my uncle with his choir circa 1962. Choirs
The photo is really nice!
![]() I find the choral music one of the best musical expression: many voices together which contribute to the same harmonious melody. A choir is one voice compound by many voices, and each voice is a piece of the whole. And Eastern music and choirs are something really touching and fascinating. Music is really cultivated there, and was and is part of everybody’s life. I hope they will keep on this tradition!
