I had a national holiday in my country on May 3... Unexpected leisure brought my thoughts to something other than Hollywood melodramas.

I took my wife to the movies as you, Kathy advised me.
I knew in advance that the film would not be conventional.
Yet, I was taken by surprise and I would like to share it with you all a little.
Unforgettably charming climate of that film enchanted me, took me somewhere high, let me go back to my younger years.

Just first scene, taken at Dublin street was so promising.
Next ones only strengthened my conviction that our decision to select this very film was so fortunate and it absolutely made my day.
The film turned out to be nicely universal and it all could have happened in Warsaw, Kyiv, Prague, Edmonton - anywhere.

There was also something special given for the Slavic souls. There is a scene where a couple (both have troubled past behind) take a motorcycle joyride to the seaside. They admire the Atlantic Ocean and at a certain moment the Guy asks the Girl to translate a phrase: "Do you love him?" to her native lagnuage and she replies "Miluyesh ho?". Then, after a little pause she gives HIM an answer "Ya miluyu TEBE". He does not understand but we Slavs understand it perfectly!
What a film!

Whether cried out in pain or whispered to your ear in earnest hope, the intimate music remains inspiring and adorns our lives.

Zbyszek, I'm happy to learn you took your wife to the movies. Did she enjoy the film as well?

I am linking a Paganini piece. For those who are unfamiliar with Paganini, he was a string virtuoso, and his compositions are notoriously difficult to learn. This piece is an attempt to recreate an entire orchestra.

The violinist here, Leonid Kogan, was one of the best violinists of the USSR (only his contemporary, David Oistrakh compares). Kogan had the disposition to practice pieces for years on end, until they were perfected, and this piece demonstrates his virtuosity. I can think of no violinist alive today who could play this piece.

Paganini was adored in all Europe and we Poles were taught about him at school because he was Chopin's contemporary. Paganini gave his famous concerts also in Poznan and Warsaw in 1828 (Poland was under Prussian/Russian rule then) . Fryderyk Chopin surely attended his performances.
Yes, his abilities appeared as above-natural. It is believed now that he was ill and his extraordinary long fingers manifested one of the disease symptoms.

Yes, my wife liked the "Once" film but I think I was more enthusiast because of the songs, which I admired and she could not understand directly. I am still under impression of the songs.
Contemporary movies equipment is really a technical perfection so the impressions are enhanced. What I really dislike is a display of mandatory advertisments in the beginning.
I was particularly amazed by Marketa Irglova's soft English. Kathy, can you tell me, did you feel any foreign accent in her singing?
I think I could detect an Irish English in GlenHansard's talk (e.g. his Moonday spelling).
