I am interested in the real cost of buying an apartment near Krushatyk Street, in Kiev. It is my understanding that, as of September 2005, flats costs about $1,300 per meter for locals, which actually seems extraordinarily high, given income levels in Ukraine. Anyway, I've also been told by some people "in he know" that English speaking real estate agents often try to take advantage of foreigners by telling them that the cost is much more, and then pocketing the difference. Anyway, I've got several questions I am hoping some people will answer:
1) Does anyone know any solid information about the actual market price for flats in Kiev's central district? 2) Does anyone know of any apartments for sale? 3) Are available apartments in Kiev usually listed with real estate agents, or do the owners list available units in the local newspapers? Thanks for your help! |

Hey, the price you list seems about the average for the area you want.
http://www.res.com.ua/ They have apartments for sale, and for rent long term. There are alot of newspapers and publications that people use to advertise real estate, however unless you speak russian or ukrainian, it will be hard to use those. You can e-mail me for more information, I know several people in Kyiv that may be able to help you find something, without trying to scam money out of you. |

Apartments and more...
I contacted the firm you recommended, and their website seems very complete, with rentals and sales of apartments in Kiev. In fact, hundreds of flats for sale appear on the website. Yet, when I contacted these folks, they told me that they only handle rentals. A mystery, to say the least. I don't know what to make of this, except to say that I have been mystified by many of the practices of Ukrainian businesses. In fact, this seems so strange that I am going to shy away from dealing with them, for the moment, until I investigate the matter a bit.
