Thanks for such a prompt response, with bit of tenacity managed to locate those co ordinates of your father's birth place, couldn't help but notice to the left of those co ordinates town called Wolodymyr (another coincidence maybe).

You are so lucky that your dad is still alive and that you have family located in the Ukraine. Let's hope I get lucky too.

The ladies that run the forum are really friendly and I am enjoying pottering on the forum, and finding my way around even though I am not as computer savvy as some, it seems a very friendly and informative site.
Have you found the origin of your name, I know someone with the surname Didyk, not sure if it is linked to your name with the YK ending, no doubt Hannia would know. I find people's names interestng and try and guess what they look like but invariably I get things wrong.
Is your sister's name a derivative of Nancy or does it mean something else.

Hi Anna, yes, I thought that it was uncanny too If you paste 50.812N,26.611E into google maps (then ignore the red label, zoom out until you seen the green arrow) that is exactly where the village was. This area was taken over for military use, and the inhabitants relocated in Kostopol. I have the advantage that my father is still in touch with the family, and am gathering information for posterity. We are planning to visit this year!
Regarding my name, it is David Wolodymyr Bilyk, so same first name as your husband and yes Anna is named after grandmother Hanna! Her nic was Nucia, which is my sister's name.
