I would have to say that alot of movies have made me stand up and take notice, I love the old black and white movies that you can't hardly see anymore, because someone thought they would colorize them.
Saving Private Ryan is among the top ones that I would see and so would the newer version of the timeless classic, Cinderella. This one stars Drew Barrymore and even though she gets her prince, she also shows that if you are true and loyal to those you love, the good will prevail.
Billy Elliot and many more are just as good, it is all in the eye of the movie watcher.

I always loved all the Alfred Hitchcok's movies, also all the black'n'white ones from the '30s and and '40s, I love old black and white Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Italian movies, especially those about the first and second World Wars... I don't really like the modern Hollywood films.

I don't know if you can call contemporary Hollywood films "modern"...They tend to be remakes of old movies...Remember Planet of the Apes redone? Italian Job soon to be redone, The Truth about Charlie based on Charade from the 60s, etc, etc.
