Oh yes, the movie about the military operation which resulted in the deaths of 40,000 ANZACS and 43,000 British, and propelled Ataturk to fame.
In fairness, Peter Weir is a great director.
More POMS did die interms of numbers but % of population ANZAC's made the biggest sacrifice

What do you make of this movie? 'Breaker' Morant http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080310/

As an anklebiter I loved Goodbye Pork Pie from OZ, but I haven't seen it in many years - I guess New Zealand is only famous for Once Were Warriors http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110729/ - What did you think of that?

I think the book was called 'Scapegoats of the Empire' - A true story of a dirty war, dirty tactics and dirty Imperial politics.
ANYONE out there not seen 'Breaker Morant'???
SEE IT!!!
please.
It's a masterpiece.
Hi Watty,

You're right the book is called 'Scapegoats of the Empire: The true story of the Bushveldt Carbineers'
by George Witton and the film is an excellent adaptation.

Lt George Witton was sentenced to death along with the other two Australians, but had his sentence commuted to life in prison. Three years later, the British House of Commons overturned Witton's conviction, and he returned to Australia a free but deeply troubled man.

There is also Shoot Straight, You B*st*rds!: The Truth Behind the Killing of "Breaker" Morant by Nick Bleszynski but I think it's out of print

Before you delete this post DV - the title is what Morant is reported to said as his final words and as the admin says this site is not for people afraid to read what in the newspapers.

My wife being in the Movie business means I have seen loads of films . But the one that always sticks in my mind is Captain Courageous ,Spencer Tracy its in black and white and its now been redone [ not as good in my opinion] but a great movie . Made me cry at the end [lol].
Also like The Winslow boy ,and Good bye mister Chips . both the originals.

I wonder if this says something about me.

I agree with you in the idea mute and white-black colour movies MUSTN'T be redone in a modern manner - that's a distortion of movie's spirit.

What?? A Ukrainian forum and no one picks Taras Bulba with Yul Brynner and Tony Curtis??
Seriously though, I absolutely love The Deer Hunter with DeNiro et al. Some of my other favourites: Dr. Stranglove; Norman Jewison's "The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming"; Being John Malkovich; any of the Peter Sellers Movies; Traffic; Any Given Sunday; any of Atom Egoyan's films; and being Canadian, I have to say 'Men With Brooms'for purely sentimental (and definately not cinematographic) reasons.

I know a guy in Winnipeg that can recite word for word the entire movie. In fact the first time I saw the film it was on French TV, and he translated the entire movie for us. Some people have no life ....
