Hannia, Cossacks know a lot about women Even when burning them, they do it from the top to the bottom, giving them a chance to escape (braidless though but nevertheless alive). But do the women run away? Nope, they pine (calambour to "sosna" for strong Ukrainian embrace, which only a true Cossack can offer. To support my words by Ukrainian classic S. Rudanskyj, let me cite his poem :
Їде козак дорогою,
Дівку надибає;
Вийняв папір з-за пазухи
Та й її читає:

«І прочая, і прочая…
По сему указу
Кожна дівка козакові
Довжна дать по разу!»

«Чуєш, дівко, що в указі?»
«Та чую, козаче».

Can’t avoid to mention Lina Kostenko – our glory and our love indeed ! She is 80 today . Mnohaja lita !

Haha, true about rap Thank you, Serhii, for mentioning Lina Kostenko. I didn't know she has a birthday today. Well, Lina Kostenko is one of the unsurpassed poets we have. I had a classmate Orysia, an incredible girl, she loves Kostenko a lot. I discovered our poetesse through her. Someday I hope to meet her again, haven't seen her for 12 years already.
I would like to join you and wish all the best to L.Kostenko, lots of health, inspiration, happiness and (a bit selfishness on my part) bring us more of warm and rich poems, which so often reflect different aspects of my life and, I think, of anyone who will read her works.

Yes , she is 80 . Who can be compared to her ? I don’t think many or even any …. She is a real universe of our culture , our national treasure . I have had a lucky chance to meet her in Kyiv about 10 or 12 years ago too.

I think I’d better give some her poems in my post , they tell much better about her then any word of mine. Enjoy everyone – it is a real spirit of Ukraine !

Oh Serhii, you must have misunderstood me. I haven't seen L.Kostenko. I wish I did. I said it about my classmate whom I haven't seen so long. She read me one of Kostenko's poems and I became hooked.
"Двори стоять у хуртовині айстр.
Яка рожева й синя хуртовина!"
I would never thought to bring flowers and blizzard so close together to make it so beautiful: "Blizzard of asters"!
I would like to post one poem of Lina Kostenko as well:
Життя іде і все без коректур.
І час летить, не стишує галопу.
Давно нема маркізи Помпадур,
і ми живем уже після потопу.

Не знаю я, що буде після нас,
в які природа убереться шати.
Єдиний, хто не втомлюється, – час.
А ми живі, нам треба поспішати.

Зробити щось, лишити по собі,
а ми, нічого, – пройдемо, як тіні,
щоб тільки неба очі голубі
цю землю завжди бачили в цвітінні.

Щоб ці ліси не вимерли, як тур,
