I do not see how Romania is relevant here, Steve. Both languages avoloved from the samew origin - Ancient Slavic Language. So, actually it is pretty damn similar BUT both languages have been developing on their own for quite a long time, so now, vocabularly and grammar are totally different now. PLus, in Western Ukraine Ukrainian language has beem under the influence of Polish language and culture which, in its turn, absorbed some words of Latin origin from other langauges. ANyways, now they have words in Western Ukrainian like "fino" which means something close to "fine" in English ( depending on the context )

I hope I answered your question.

Cheers,
Olesya

I will be traveling to Ukraine (Kiev)on month of December. Staying for four weeks...
I am a 28 year old man, interested in getting a crush immersion into the Ukranian language.
Can anybody recomend me a language institute, where this services are offered?
Thanks, for your help.

Hi Steve,

Good to have you back.

I would say the difference is hundreds of years of suppression.
