There is no reason for not learning the Cyrillic alphabet, it is very quick and easy.

There is no standard method of transliterating Cyrillic into Latin because the Latin alphabet is an ambiguous shambles. (eg "C" can be sound of S, K, Ch, Ts, or th)

Learning Cyrillic is more important than learning a few phrases by sound.

By the way, the best way to waste money in Ukraine is by taking taxis.

The Cyrillic alphabet REALLY is fun.

Well since being married to my Ukraïnian love of my life,I now know how to read cyrillic words in Ukraïnian or Russian for that matter.
Gradually I start understanding words and composing sentences.
But hardest of all, is Ukraïnian / Russian grammar.
Learn that and you will succeed in whatever you want to say in Ukraïne.
And yes, do take a Metro, Tramvaj, Trolleybus or use a bi-cycle. In big places suchas Kiev that is.

Davaj poka !
