OK, I remember " A Be Ve He Ge E ye....etc". Yet in the Hippocrene Standard, there is no "Ge", the "He" is "ge".
20 years ago that was the Russian alphabet. Is it just the Hippocrene dictionary or was there a real change in the language eliminating the "ge" and pronouncing "he" as "ge". Not that my opinion matters, but I always thought that having that soft sounding "H" was one of the betterments of the Ukrainian language over Russian. Oh please Ukrainian citizens, tell me it "aint" so!

Hi.
The two different G letters are now both used in Ukrainian language. I believe the second, strong G, which pronounces identically to the russian G was introduced around 10 years ago. Also it is not widely used, only a very limited number of specific words uses the strong G. While the soft one, is the one that is used in almost all of the language. Cheers. (Just happened to be here, doesn't mean that I'm back or anything... I come to look at the board sometimes)
