Дорогі моі західні співвітчизники,
прошу допомогти у перекладі, бо ви знаєте англійську досконало. Які еквіваленти на англійській таких слів: "бик" у переносному, зрозуміло, розумінні "бичка" "западло" "в падлу" "замухришка" "клуша" - жінка, що тільки квохче над своєю сім'єю, а на все навкруги їй начхати, ну ви розумієте... Пробачте за такі некультурні слова, але мені важко без них на сайті. [Edited by Irena on 24th March 2001 at 05:27] |

Я знаю
In order to write in cyrilic you have to change your keyboard properties. Go into control pannel, click on keyboard properties, select the languages tab. Click on ADD and select Ukrainian. Tick the Enable indicator on taskbar option. Now you should see a blue box on your taskbar with the letters En. When you come to typing in Ukrianian left click on this and select the language you want. It should then display Uk. Hope you can follow these instructions Martyn |

I'm not familiar with those terms in English. A UK dialect, maybe? In north american usage they would be more like: бичёвка (if that's what is meant by бичка) is a tramp or like a female vagabond. западло - is a worthless person or a scumbag (from падаль, a dead animal or carrion); or, in another usage, a shady deal or shady business. замухрышка - a loser, a bad example бик (бык - a bull or ox) - a thug or no-neck, or a bodyguard or hired muscle. (I'm not sure what the Italian mafia term is - maybe "cugine"). клуша is a bit harder. It's literally a hen that is brooding (in colloquial Russian, anyway). If I understand the definition given above in Ukrainian correctly (a woman who looks after her own family, and anyone else can go to hell), then I don't think there is a word or expression in English that comes even close. It's not a concept that really exists in the english-speaking world, I think. Interesting that most of these come from Russian criminal slang (blatnoi zhargon). Are there other, purely Ukrainian words that are commonly used in Ukranian slang? Timofei |
