Thumbs down

They are going to put new rules of orthography in Ukraine.
Now I must say "poliziant", "kathedra","mapa" etc.
But why must I speak like a Canadian emigrant?
I don't want to speak with Canadian accent.

Jm, why? I don´t know, Irena. I am from Lviv, you know, and all my life I say "katedra" and "mapa". For me "karta" is Russian word. But it is not something very important in this period. I see that there are a few people in Kyiv who speaks in Ukrainian, and I think that the main problem is the language, not a few words.

Irena:

What's so wrong with speaking Ukrainian with a Canadian accent?

In my dealings with "vyshyvanka & oseledets" Uni professors I deliberately use it, and you should see what stunningly advantageous (for me and my own selfish ends)impact it has on them! The way I am treated then is a carbon copy of the conventional welcome an "Uncle Gregory(Stan, Paul, Andrew etc.) Kowbasenko" gets when he pays a nostalgic overseas visit to the Kowbasenkos of, say, Mukhosran'sky Okolotok of Hadiachskogo Uyizdu of Zapoltavs'koi Oblasti.

You see, how efficient it can prove, when applied opportunely, with wit, wisdom, and discretion!
