AKMike-Thanks for the heads up on Polyglot. It has a larger vocabulary. I also use Livemocha.com. My main problem is placing the accent on the correct syllable. Needing more people to chat with but again depending on where they are from they correct what someone else said was pronounced correctly.

That's quite a relief, because one doesn't have to worry much about it when constructing a sentence. For example: Я тебе кохаю як весну. Як весну я тебе кохаю. Кохаю тебе я як весну. Я як весну тебе кохаю... All of them mean the same "I love you like (a) spring". The major difficulty though is conjugation. It comes with practice. There are only present, future and past! in Ukrainian with no continuous, perfect, future continuous, imperfect, which again is great and simplifies the learning process. My suggestion would be to build some word foundation and at the same time learn to write some simple sentences incorporating the learnt words so that they are not out of context. Listening to the radio and TV (as was suggested by Pitter Pen), even when no understanding at first, will help you with conjugating verbs. I know it is not much, but might be helpful. Please, let me know of your progress and any other difficulties that you encounter. Always happy to help out. Happy New Year, Ashleigh
Thank you. I can read some of words but it is making sense of the sentences that I have trouble with. I have been in contact with a family member who writes to me in Ukrainian and I try to translate what I can myself before I have an interpreter do it. The more letters that I get the more words start to jump out at me so I can tell the subject of what my Aunt is saying to me but I do not know what she is saying about the subject. If that makes sense. But it is showing progression.
My new years resolution is to spend more time trying to learn as much as I can before the spring. Can someone tell me any Ukrainian radio stations? That are broadcast in Ukrainian language and not Russian. I may be able to get this radio station on my mobile (cell) phone so I can listen when I am away from home.

Also is "Ukrainian power" a good source to learn from? I have been looking at this on youtube and there have been some mixed comments. It is a series teaching children to learn Ukrainian but some comments said that the way they teach the alphabet is the old Russian way. Would be good to get some feedback from the forum.

Thanks!
