Na Dovhu I Nikoli
I have a lot of letters from my auntie as a young girl sent to my grandfather. At the beginning of most letters she starts the letters with the sentence 'Na Dovhu I Nikoli' written in Cyrillic. I have tried looking through my Ukrainian phrasebook but can't make out what it says.
Can anyone here help me translate this sentence? |

Can you write it down in Cyrillic here?
It doesn't make sense as it's shown. I suuspect that you've gotten a few letters mixed up by using english letters. And since they were probably written during the Soviet era it might be in Russian not Ukrainian. Adding Cyrillic to your keyboard is fairly quick, Go to your control panel, then regional and language options. Adding the letters to the keys is the hardest part. |

I have had to attach a screen shot as i could not upload the scanned document. I have highlighted the part that I am know sure what it means. I am sure it is written in Ukrainian but if it isn't please let me know.
Thanks |

I'm glad that you added the rest of this part of the letter. The first words you showed are only a part of it. The whole phrase shown on the thumbanil is complete.
It is written in Ukrainian. (на довгу нiколи незабутню пам'ять iз села Княжа) In Russian it would sound like "На долгую и никогда не забываемую память из села Княжа" In English it would sound like "For long lasting and never forget this memory" It's an old style of saying that This person wants them to know that they are loved and remembered(memories) and wants the same thing! Quite possibly a standard greeting for a letter back in the old days.?!. |
