Scared to go in Ukraine as have 0% knowledge of Ukrainian.

I guess the first line says it all; I am planning to visit Ukrain and probably get sattled there but I am scared to do so as I have 0% knowledge of Ukrainian. Now it's not that I am scared of languages I already speak "English, French and Urdu" but as you know the alphabits of English and French as approximately same whereas in Ukrainian it's totally different.. (OR ALMOST DIFFERENT)...

Any suggestions for me? Do people understand English there? I might get lost ???

Regards,
Faisal.

It depends on the purpose of your visit?

Faisal,

You do not explain the purpose of your visit and that will determine how much Ukranian/ Russian language that you may need to use. Firstly do you understand that whilst almost everyone speaks Ukranian in the west of Ukraine, to the east and in the Crimea the most commonly used language is Russian.

It may put you at ease to know that as an Englishman, I speak no Ukranian and only a few words of Russian. However, I have years of experience of being in countries that do not speak my language and have become innovative in communicating train/ bus ticket and supermarket purchases. Buying food in restaurants has also never been a problem. But I live with native speakers and they have given me much assistance in more demanding purchases/ transactions.

I think if you try and rent an apartment without the help of a native speaker you are at risk of getting a bad deal. There are persons on this website in "moving" and "business" posts who offer their services. Have you checked out the visa requirements that apply to your particular nationality?

You should find that you're allowed to stay there for 90 days then you must leave for 90 days. Settleing there might be a problem.

Russian is the basic language of eastern and central Ukraine. Western Ukraine uses Ukrainian alot. I'd study Russian language.

Yes,

I have checked all the nuccessery requirements of visa. And yes I do know that I have to leave after 90 days. Infact I will be joining a "Flying School" to be a commecial pilot : Flight School State Flight Academy Of Ukraine Kirovograd Flight School

They say that the course would be in English and they will give me only a few "classes'' of Ukrainian or Russian so that I can manage with them

I was worry about being in a country where language is totally different. I have been in France and spent three years there and surely learnt French but that was the time when I was a student of "High School" now as you see my education is gonna be english so it will be a problem to learn Ukrainian or Russian and well even the alphabit is not the same

GOD HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a challenge! No doubt about it. I've been working on Rosetta Stone lessons and it's pretty good. Others say the Plemseur is better to learn with.
