Help translating please
I received a letter from a recently found relative still living in Ukraine, unfortunately, I don't speak any Ukrainian. Could someone please help me translate? I have attached it below.
Thank you kindly. |

This probably won't help you now because this is hand written BUT ....
Google Translate can give you a basic idea of the text. It's far from perfect but it's not bad for basic language translations including Ukrainian. |

I tried that already but I don't know how to type Ukrainian either so I actually started copying and pasting the Ukrainian letters into Google Translate after watching flash videos on how to hand write Ukrainian on the University of Alberta website. It took me about 30 minutes to get the first two words so I gave up.

Hi from far away Bukovyna
Bukovyna is a part of Ukraine and is the land of our ancestors. I am addressing you Gordon Tokar as my relative, with great respect and gratitude from the bottom of my heart for your having found me practically on the other end of the world. Unfortunately, I have no Internet and have to communicate with you via letters. About myself: I am Tokar Pavlo Ivanovych, born in 1959, son of Ivan Matfeioyvych. My grandfather Matfey was born ca. 1895 – there are no documents to confirm this. But we know for sure that Tokar Matfey Filliopvych had a brother - Tokar Ivan Fillipovych who emigrated to Canada in 1911. This was a period of great migration of Bukovyna people to the North America. Ivan Fellipovych left his motherland being about 25 years old. I also know that he was single, unmarried when he emigrated. I am sorry to know next to nothing about him – so much time has passed – and all his relatives who knew Ivan here in Bukovyna have passed away. Only his nephew is alive – she lives in Russia and knows nothing about him since she was born after he had emigrated. It is difficult to find more data, because Bukovina was occupied by Austria, Romania, and Soviet Union. I have written all I so far know and in my next letters will tell you more – all that I will be able to learn. Once again I would like to thank you Gordon Tokar for not abjuring your clan – 100 years have past since – and they unite Bukovyna and Canada. I am looking forward to your reply.Regards, P.I. Tokar |
