You are quoting me and I haven't even posted anything in this thread. Too much of that Luhansk samohonka will addle your brain every time.

Irene,

One of my South American Friends is looking for a recommendation @ university level. He is a Spanish (Chile) Speaker, who would like to learn Ukrainian in Ukraine. Thank you.

A proposal...

I find very fascinating all the varieties of languages, sounds, words, expressions which have been developed in such a creative way. Each language is a mirror of a different way of looking things and the result of a long history and shared experiences and each one should have its place.
Surely in practice we need a bridge language in order to be able to communicate. At the moment english functions as a bridge language, as it is so widely spoken. But english has not become an international language because it's more interesting or nicer than others... We don't need to tell again why in such far continents as America or Australia the official language is english instead of the native languages... why in Ireland gaelic is disapperaing, why Indians or South Africans speak english, too.
I agree with Pitter Pan that if we consider the skeletons of each nation, nobody knows what language we should speak.
On the other side I understand that people from the former ex-Soviet Empire, including Poles, Czechs and so on, are already fed up with russian, and want to speak english and be in tune with the "western world", which they couldn't do before. While in western Europe russian language and culture has always had its important place.
On the other side Ukraininan language is not so known, and it's really very hard to find some course of that language. Even the Assimil doesn't have a course of Ukraininan language.
So I think somebody has to fill the gap.
Perhaps some member of this forum could organize a basic online course of that language. There are so many online courses that can give the right inspiration...
What do you think about?
