There are some minor differences between lemko and hutsul dialects... The reference is wrong because lemkos live not just on eastern side of Carpathians, the live everywhere in Carpathians.

It’s very nice you come again and again and ask many questions. Seems you are very interested indeed. All those ethnical groups ( boikos, lemkos, gutsuls) have different organizations, museums, newspapers… They provide different festivals of their native culture and for sure treasure their customs and languages /dialects.

Let me give you an example. I speak standard Ukrainian language but I understand all those dialects easily. They just bring additional colors to our culture. All languages have regional differences and so does our native one.

It would be just great if you could speak/understand standard Ukrainian and I am sure you have to start with it. Try to learn history of those people – often it is very sad, etc.

I am busy today but I’ll try to find for you links you need. Keep seeking and learning! I wish I met more people like you here.

Hello from Ukraine !

Ok, thank you so much Serhii. I will learn standard Ukranian.

But can somebody, maybe, post some the differences in standard and the dialect spoken in that region? (For example they use a different word for thank you)

Thanks for all your help!!!

Unfortunately, I don't because I'm inhabitant of Uzhgorod. But I understand all the dialects mentioned...

Really, for you will be easier to learn standard Ukrainian and then you will understand dialects. But if you begin with Hutsul dialect of Rakhovo (hutsul city in mountains)... well, it may confuse you much.

Have you ever visited this site ? I think it could be very useful for you . Let me know.

LEMKOs | Lemkivshchyna | Lemkovyna | Lemko | Boyko | Rusyn | Rusnak | Ruthenians | Carpatho-Ruthenians, etc.....

There is a wonderful movie ‘ Shadows of forgotten ancestors’ ( in Ukrainian Т╕н╕ забутих предк╕в). It is based on Hutsul traditions and they speak only Hutsul dialect. You can find this masterpiece in Ukrainian shops ( Yevshan and others ). Remember it is not typical Hollywood production - you have to prepare yourself before watching and then you’ll remember it all your life long.

You didn’t mention where you live. You could visit Ukrainian museums/organizations., etc and receive information there.
