I'm wondering about the Olympics in 2008. Toronto, Osaka, Paris and Beijing also known as Peking have been running. So far Toronto and Beijing are the biggies in the contest. My dad though believes that Beijing will win.
I'm furious to see that they could have such a big chance of winning after all the massacres and the slave labour in the People's Republic of China. I remember watching back in Poland that great heroic student standing infront of a column of tanks with a white flag or something. Many of you remember that since for me it was very emotional to see someone stand up too that much force and power. It made me remember about Polands Police brutality back in 1982 when Police ranned over miner with tanks and trucks. I don't think that the IOC should even consider having Beijing as a major forerunner since the communists oppress the masses and are forcing the people into slavery. Something should be done internationaly to finally tell the Beijing Government what we think of them. Not by burning flags or being violent but by simply marching out and doing something that will show that the Communists do not have any support. They may as well as hide behind their Great Wall and become a closed society once again! If they can't respect the people they won't have any respect! |

The olympic committee have just left Toronto a few days ago, since I work so close to the building where they were, I waited untill it was over and sneaked in to ask questions of the security staff. So far, they love Toronto, they didn't have even one complaint. But even though they were happy with the city and our heavy planning for the olympics, they weren't promising anything, not even hinting that Toronto may win.
I think that it'll be terrible if Beijing wins, why favour the country with such little respect for human life? Even though Beijing is showing a great face for the Olympic Committee, they can do nothing to mask their past and present brutality. I have a feeling that if Beijing wins, some countries may actually boycot the Olympics all together. Pirogies, it's mostly Chinese Government, not just Beijing, this happens all over China. P.S. May TORONTO win!! |

Well, here is an extreeme example, but do you remember Olympics in Moscow'80? I guess you do not, I was a pretty young baby myself at that time. Though as far as I remember,or to be more exact... what people told me, there were quite a few countries boycotting it.
It just tells me that Olympic Commitee does not choose the country for Olympic Games on the Human Rights ideas. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Chinese politics on human rights, but I do not see that Pekin(if chosen) will be greatly boycoted as Moscow. It's just diferent. |

I know about the boycotts of the Moscow Olympics. Even though I was -5
years old. The reason that I heard off the CNN: Cold War series, was the reason of Soviet troops in Afghanistan. A grotesque war. The Americans boycotted which meant their puppet countries had to follow the same decision of boycotting the games themselves. Only the Communist countries and some of Eastern Asia joined in Moscow. Anyways the games were a major propaganda move for the Soviets. Red Banners and Communism was shown off greatly! Oh Well! Hopefully we will boycott Beijing! |
