If you look at job ads in many of Ukraine's newspapers, you will find that many of these ads either imply or explicitly state that only men need apply.

I am not familiar with the Constitution of Ukraine, but isn't gender discrimination a violation of basic human rights?

discrimination against women

its all over the place, most especially in arab counries
where women are treated as second class citizens with no rights to fight it. usually in progressive countries discrimination againstg women or men is illegal, and employers looking for workers usually post - 'xyz' is an equal opportunity employer -. If the legaly system isn't progressive enough to stop discrimination then i'm afraid
there isn't much chance for progress, until the right kind of government gets elected, and this is where women in general can help themselves..that is of course provided that there are elections.

Jablo,

These ads in newspapers were from private companies.

But Ukraine's government has a duty to protect the rights of its citizens.

nikolai,

whether the ads are from private companies or not is irrelevant. Something like that wouldn't be tolerated here in Canada.
And I've heard that when the ad IS for women, they usually specify that only young pretty girls need apply.

One thing that I never understood about some countries...Is why do companies want you to submit a photo of yourself...It's not a dating service you are applying for but a job!
