"Kuchma Responsible for Disappearance of Journalist"
Associated Press, 28 November 2000

Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma is directly responsible for the
disappearance and possibly the gruesome murder of investigative
journalist Georgy Gongadze, said opposition leader Oleksander Moroz,
leader of the Ukrainian Socialist Party, this weekend in Budapest. De
Volkskrant has access to a secret recording which the opposition
party says was made in the president's office, and in which Kuchma
can be heard ordering Gongadze's kidnapping.

What do you think?

Question

The tale seems a little too contrived for one to lend much credibility to. Moroz must be losing critical support among a deceived populace. Question. Do the Ukrainians need another does of socialism and dictatorship to cure their societal and economic ills?

Ukraine needs a stable government, but not any that is known to modern world. The unique form of government, that can only be applied to the origin of its birth. Hetmanstvo chosen leader rules forever and has unlimited power. However, still everything else stays democratic :O)

That would be perfect, but it won't happen...

Good luck,
Stas

I APPRECIATE THE THREE FEEDBACKS ON MY ORIGINAL QUESTION. I AM FULLY AWARE OF THE 'MOROZ REVELATIONS'. IT'S THE FOLLOWUP, OR LACK THEREOF, WHICH CONCERNS ME. IF IT WAS INDEED AN INSIDE JOB, WILL IT BE SQUELCHED BY THE 'INSIDE' CONSPIRATORS? ARE YOU , AT ALL, FREE TO TALK ABOUT IT? MY ORIGINAL QUESTION REMAINS: 'IS THIS A POLITICALLY MOTIVATED INSIDE JOB?'. IF SO, AS ALLEGED BY MOROZ, THEN WHAT'S NEXT?

Clearly an "inside job," clearly directed by Moroz, clearly intended to dislodge Kuchma in a nasty way. Gongadze was somebody's sap. The issue will be incorrectly perceived as an attack on the press by Kuchma. There is, at best, a tenuous connection between "found body" and Kuchma. The connection is alleged in the tapped conversations, but is not clear. Moroz is pretty nasty. This is pretty rough stuff.

THIS DISCUSSION IS GOING NOWHERE FAST. THE LAST ENTRY POURS COLD WATER ON 'MOROZ REVELATIONS'. THEN IT GENERALISES -- 'GONGADZE WAS SOMEBODY'S SAP'. THEN, KUTCHMA'S ALLEGED MOTIVATION TO MUZZLE PRESS IS POOH-POOHED. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY A 'TENUOUS' LINK TO KUTCHMA INDICATION. IN SUMMARY: [1] MOROZ IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED, [2] ABSENT MOTIVATION, KUTCHMA IS A WEAK SUSPECT. BACK TO SQUARE ONE: AREN'T GOVERMENT'S ACTIONS AND INACTIONS, IN THE GONGADZE MYSTERY, TRANSPARENT ENOUGH TO POINT TO ITS [I.E.GOVERNMENT'S] COMPLICITY IN IT ?
