No chances, he gave his heart to Ekaterine II.

The biggest Ukrainian ever is Prince Volodymyr.

I agree with previous posters he could teach modern Ukrainians many things.

Were you taught at school that Ukraine originated in the XIth cent or before Christ?

Yes Max, prince Vladimir (Volodymyr) was as much Ukrainian as I am the pope.
Volodymyr was the Grand Prince of Kyivan Rus'.
I do support Kathy's vote.

(Should I think some Polish tribes named Polanie held Kyiv in the VIIth century? ha ha)

Oh this charming Russian accent... Vladimir... vodka, perestroyka, balalayka.

The guy was Kyivan Prince. Technically Ukrainians didn't existed yet but those ancient Kyivan tribes are ancestors of Ukrainians, right? So this is quite legal legacy. Let's call him the greatest pra-Ukrainian.

Zbyszek... exotic name... is it American Indian? It sounds like that.

Anyway, now Savic Shooster conducts the big TV project "The Greates Ukrainians" when people vote for the greatest ones and we have the last 10 pretenders. Btw, Stepan Bandera is among them same as Bogdan Chmelnitsky.

Few days later we will know who is democratically elected The Greatest Ukrainian.

He is one of my favorites as well, Prince Vladimir. He is of Norwegian and Swedish ancestry. One of his ancestors was Olafur INGJALDSSON from Sweden.

His ancestors were Norsemen, mostly Swedes, who went eastwards and southwards through what is now Russia, Belarus and Ukraine mainly in the 9th and 10th centuries.

But as for a sub-enthnosis my favorite is Ivan Rusenko, "the teacher"

Hi Max,

1. I gave two name versions.
2. So technically Adam and Eva were maybe the greatest pra-pra-pra-Ukrainians. Congrats.
3. It is just smaller version old Slavic name Zgi-Gniew (like Yaro-gniew) means Deprived of Fear. It should be spelled Zbyshek. Yes, I know it is difficult for the Anglo-Saxons to pronounce. Not for you I guess.
4. So you have Bandera on the list - another throat slitter along with tragic Bohdan. Too bad. I'd vote for Shevchenko, Kysil or Mohyla.
5. Next time you will democratically confirm the advanatge of Christmas over the Easter.

Yes, Volodymyr has a drop of Varangian blood. Actually, all the Kyivan dinasty of Ruricks which later became the Moskow royal dinasty comes from Northmen. The first Rurick was actually any Scandinavian adventurer who was looking for own kingdom.

What century is you school located in? Are you sure Adam and Eva ever existed anywhere, except the pages of Bible? May be you meant some nice monkeys who "were hanging from the trees, stealing honey from the bees".

Novgorod and around tribes are direct ancestors of Russians. Kyiv and around tribes are direct ancestors of Ukrainians.

Hopefully, this will open you blinded eyes about people's authentic rankings of popularity. Shevchenko and Lesya Ukrainka are in the list too.

Democracy is good thing, it helps to devide corns from tares.
