Dear StasUA!
I suggest you learning Geography a little bit. Ukraine has always been and wiil be always the Eastern European. Another way if you are a patriot. Ukraine for you Like the Earth. Ukraine is the centre of Europe like the Earth is the center of Universe. My best regards! ------------------ My real name is Alexander Ogiyenko! E-mail - <ogiyenko@mail.ru> |

Je je, Alexander, if Ukraine is the Eastern part of Eastern Europe, what is Russia???? I studied in school that Europe is all up to Urals, so the geographical centre of Europe must be between Slovaquia and Ukraine... Now in politic it is sayd that Poland, Slovakia and Chekia are Eastern Europe, but not geographically, as Austria isn't geographically central Europe. Just geography...

I suggest you to start from learning where is beginning and end of Europe, like Grandma said(Which is a thrutful fact) That Europe goes from Portugal to Ural mountains in Russian, but exact middle between them is western Ukraine. And abotu Earth, if you look at the map of Earth you will see that Ukraine is almost the center but for me it is the center of World) ![]() |

I get your point, Stas, regarding "politically East," but it just seems hard to put a place as big as Ukraine into the "central" area. Until the USSR caved in, all of those "central" countries were regarded as "eastern" because of their association with Moscow. Absent that distinction, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia (to the Urals) seem to be the inheritors of the term "eastern" as a matter of convenience: They are to the east of the other "central" states. That is, where does "central" stop when considering the aggregate of states?
It is much like the "middle east" and the "near east." Which country belongs in which category, and why? In terms of orientation (a bad choice for a word, but I can think of no other), the "central" notion might gain more usage if Ukraine were to align itself more firmly with the states that are commonly regarded as "central." |

Firts and formost, we must define what it means to be a Eastern Europian counrty. Is it simply geography or does it go into something more then just geography. To be east of Germany, Swiss, Austria,Italy, and Finland...is that what it means to be Eastern Europian? I have read some articals on Hungary and many consider Hungary to be Eastern Europian. Why? Because politally, they were involved in Eastern Europian politics during the Hapsburgs rule of the area and Austrio-Hungarian duel monarchy that ruled much of the Balkan`s. It seems to me that people look at Eastern Europe as not simply Eastern Europe by way of Geography but ethnic and cultural heritage....eg...magyars, latins,turks,slavs,etc...Though many different tribes settled in the areas of western and eastern europe...German tribes invaded Eastern Europian countries and Slavs and Mongolian nomads invaded and became part of Germany, etc...There is always a distinction made between west and eastern Europe. Is it simply the geography of the countries. Why the distinction at all? Unfortunaity, I think after meditation and thought that it is because of cultural and ethnic differences that exsist...the predominant enfluences in certain areas of Europe. I see it in my family. Sometimes people say...Your grandmother was slavic...grandfather German...grandmother on other side magyar. Does it really matter? Not to me but there is, I think, an unseen division between the GErman influence of western europe, southern europe being latin , and Eastern europe, being more slavic in background. According to this account, I woul d have to say that....Ukraine is geographically and ethnically Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, Hitler even made statements in which he openly defiled slavs. I hate Nazis(I read a book where his name was derived from a slavic name into German...which was common in places like Austria and parts of Germany..heehehee.).So, Ukraine is a part of Eastern Europe, though there should not be a distinction.

Greetings,
I have to dissagree with you, because Germany is not Central, it is Western European nation. If you look at Geographical CORRECT map of Europe, from France to Ural mountains, then you will see that exact center of Europe is Carpathians, which are located in Western Ukraine. Political and cultural "east" ? Maybe, but then call it "Political East". But when you put word "Europe" in there, then everybody assumes you talk about geographical Europe, because it is geographical word. Central European Countries are: Ukraine, Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Hungary and Moldova. I don't know if Romania is southern or central. Eastern European country is Russia. But not whole Russia, there is part of Russia which is Northern European. But if you look at the whole Russia, then it is Asian. I speak in a name of truth only. |
