Cool

Greetings to those who are reading this,

Do you think that culture should evolve with time and progress? Or shall culture stay untouchable, wherein old traditions and ways are kept eternal, without change? What is your opinion on this subject?
Do you believe in old ways, or new ways? Or you think one doesn't hurt another? I would like to hear any views on this, thank you.

Stas

Culture and tradition is always going to be rooted in history. Of course, eventually, they get bastardized with the passage of time and given their importance in any given culture. There are some universal traditions that have withstood thousands of years and we can assume that they are still relatively intact, but without video tape from the Middle Ages, how can we be sure? Things will probably remain the same...what's the old saying? "The more things change, the more they remain the same."
I can't see girls dancing the Hopak in mini-skirts and I can't see my mother baking Easter bread with chocolate frosting on it, but who is to say.
I think tradition gives us identity. Yes, we all need to get along together, but, the individuality is what makes us all unique.
I guess I like being 100% Ukrainian.

By the way, I'm new to this game of communicating on the internet...but it seems like fun. Just how big is this group, and what is everyone's background, etc.?

Well It's a bit out of the topic, but anyway.

Number of participants here always varies. For instance, two months ago there were a lot more people here, and everything was different, now it's only like 3-4 active participants here, although I'm sure a lot more are visiting this site, but not posting here. The backgrounds are all different also, well I'm 14 years old Ukrainian from Kyiv, currently living in New-York.

Good luck,
Stas
