I am from Ukraine and I can give a few names from different fields. Music: Lysenko, Liatoschynskij, Revytskij, Scoryk,Leontovych.Litarature: Grabovskij,Panas Murnij, Nechyij Levutskij,
G.Scovoroda, V.Stus.

Come on guys, ask any one in the UK (or any football playing nation) who's the most famous Ukrainian and they say "Andrei Shevchenko or Sergei Rebrov", A couple of years ago they'd have said Sergei Bubka, but fame is a fickle thing.

I would state
Jeremii Wishnievetsky, count of Lubny and Wishnievec (1612-1651) should be among the greatest ukrainians.
He played the role of Shindler, while saving jewish families in 1648.
